I have a Alinco DR-600 radio. When I transmit there is an intermittent hum on my signal that I am pretty sure is caused by a bad microphone or microphone cable.

The microphone is labeled EMS-12 which seems to be out of stock everywhere I look.

There are several models of replacement microphones that seem to be suggested but I am not sure which one is the right one.

How can I figure out which one to use?

Is there a non-alinco microphone that you'd recommend for this radio instead?

AC0QW, the most important thing to remember when trying to find a suitable replacement microphone for any transceiver is;

  1. Ensure that the microphone you choose to purchase has the appropriate impedance that will match the impedance for your transceiver, that is normally listed in the specifications page of your transceivers owners manual.

Any microphone with a correct matching impedance will work. Matching the impedance for the microphone follows the same rules for matching impedances between any electrical circuit. There are numerous companies that sell replacement microphones and the choice of the style and cost is up to you.
