I am trying to learn CW and I bought the ARRL's Your Introduction to Morse Code.

I've gone through that and think I've got basic code down at 5 wpm. What else should I do to learn the code?

THIS may not apply to all but i broke the plateau hang ups by running CALLSIGNS,WORLDWIDE you will hear every letter, number, and prosign procedures in callsigns, when you can copy those calls the rest becomes easier,i found i quickly gained wpms twice as easy, try it for after all its a good way to practice and back check your copy.i was 55 when i started.

Sorry no on line link,i have this program on a floppy,it is great as you adjust the speed as you wish while you get comfortable with your copy.it really moved me way above 20 wpms and solid copied my test with its help.

I am using K7QO's material as well. I started a couple of times, but had to go back to my real studies instead of the fun ones.

I would also recommend JustLearnMorseCode by LB3KB Its similar to G4FON but have some more flexibility when it comes to speed setting. I have used both, but I personally preferred the JustLearnMorseCode. I am now up to 20WPM copying speed, thanks to those two great programs. Once you learned the morse code, I would recommend the RufzXP program to train in increasing your speed. It's great fun.
Start at a speed of at least 13-15 WPM everything slower than this will make you start analyse and count dits and dah's, and you will get problems with speed plateus. Anyone trying to learn morse code at 10wpm or slower will later get into the problem with speed plateus when trying to increase their speed. You might have to start over from scratch relearning the code because your brain is translating from dit and dah's to character, instead of building reflexes.

Good luck in learning morse code, and remember to tell youself : IT'S EASY. Don't listen to the people who says morse code is difficult. They are WRONG.
