Iam just wondering why so many new amatures have a problem with the Code? For me it has and is like Music to my brain and ears, like a different language.to become proficent you Must copy code everyday -over-Learnig all the charectors,-that means everyday no matter what! 15/30 minutes no longer when you are fist learning-if you get a brainblock just try try more till you get it,it has taken me 25 yrs to copy 78 wpm in my head and 10 yrs practice and copy to write down in block lettering 62 wpm.It takes devotion.I love the Morse code and the Old Railroad code, its like a great musical tune for me. THE KEY IS PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE and more PRACTICE.... W1AW and on the air practice having a regular QSO (contact)ragchew on cw.You will find me QRQ daily around 7.022,14.023,1.812.5 and 10.103 -Happy learning and copy see you in the Pile-ups.DX/GL

Its been hard for me to learn code because I cant always find time to devote to learning it and if I slip on my routine I forget and have to start over again (Im using the K0CH method at 25 WPM) |

My experience has been very similar to KJ6CLX's. I'm also using the Koch method, G4FON's Morse Trainer (although I'm only trying for 20 WPM). If I don't practice every night or two, I have to drop a few letters. If I go a week or more, I usually have to start over at two letters. |

It isn't helpful to say how easy it has been for you, and you don't see why it should be hard for anyone else. Different people learn different kinds of things in different ways. I love c.w. operation but do not pretend it is easy to become proficient. In my Novice days long ago (when a Novice had one year to advance from 5 wpm to 13 wpm) it took me three visits to the FCC office in Boston to pass the code test for my General class license . My last try was just days before my Novice expired. It was another 15 years with a lot of c.w. operation before I dared to try the 20 wpm test for an Extra license. More than 30 years later I am confident I could still pass that test, but copying much faster than 20 wpm is still difficult. I'm an MIT graduate, a Ph.D., and a former college professor, but some kinds of learning are hard for me. I can speak two foreign languages but I can't imitate accents in English. I'm a birdwatcher, but identifying bird songs is hard for me. |
