Any recommendations of online training, study and practice exams sites? |

For anyone studying for the US amateur exams, I highly recommend the Gordon West exam guide books and the audio material. The audio material compliments the exam prep books and helps to re-enforce the information you are reading. The ARRL also publishes exam study guides for all three levels of the US amateur license. I have always used both the ARRL books and the Gordon West material. I loaded the Gordon West audio material onto my iPhone and I have it with me whereever I go. Once you have the foundation (gained from reading the ARRL or GW books), there are a number of online testing sites to help polish your knowledge. I'm listing in no particular order. Most are free. hamtests.net/ qrz.com/p/testing.pl hamtestonline.com/ eham.net/exams/ aa9pw.com/radio/ Also, check out this podcast which covers all three levels of the US exams. http://www.hamradioclass.org/ There could certainly be more sites. Just Google and you might find more. I hope this helps. 73, Jerry kd0bik Host of The Practical Amateur Radio Podcast MyAmateurRadio.com |

I downloaded the question - answer pool from ARRL, put it into WORD and highlighted the correct answer in yellow. Then I read and re-read each question ignoring all the wrong answers, so the right answer was always associated with any given question. The General & Extra tests were a breeze for me using this technique. |

From my personal experience from not having any license to taking and passing tests, I have used the website: http://www.qrz.com/p/testing.pl I found it to be VERY helpful in that you can take it over and over and even if you get a question wrong, you can make it so that it doesn't go on to the next until you get it right. I also used the ARRL books that were mentioned to work on some of the memorization on a few questions I just didn't understand. Stephen KJ4RAU |

The resources at http://kb0mga.net/exams/index.php are very helpful. The "original" site works great from any platform, including a mobile phone (so you can work a few questions while idle); the "devel" site looks really good on a PC or iPhone, but isn't so good on other phones. The devel site claims to use a good algorithm for getting unanswered or missed questions to you more than passed questions. I used it a lot recently... and passed my extra exam. |
